Industrial R&D Projects
Design and implementation of Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks (WSAN) for subway trains and station platforms to facilitate the opening operation of automatic doors. The project includes a feasibility study of different radio technologies, hardware and firmware design of wireless nodes, and proof-of-concept testing under realistic conditions. Responsible for system design, wireless communications protocol design, hardware and firmware development, and project management.
Design and implementation of a low-cost flexible system (M2SMART System) that provides remote and secure access to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) from maintenance computers. Responsible for the system design and project management.
CoupledETC (for European Space Agency)
Synchronization, demodulation, and coding techniques for deep-space missions. Responsible for the design and implementation of baseband digital signal processing algorithms on Field Programmable Gates Array (FPGA).
Experimental platform for field testing and performance evaluation of MAC protocols. Responsible for the design and implementation of an embedded system based on MicroBlaze and hardware accelerators.
Contactless 3D-scanner based on structured light for the generation of objects’ digitized surfaces. Responsible for the electronics and optics project management, design, manufacturing and test of the video projection and video acquisition subsystems.
MARES (Muscle Atrophy Research and Exercise System, for NASA and ESA)
Physiological facility for muscular characterization of astronauts in the International Space Station (ISS), for studying the effects of micro-gravity on the Human Being during long-term missions. Responsible for the design, manufacturing and test of the Supervisory, Controller and Power Electronics Subsystems.
EPU (Experiment Preparation Unit, for European Space Agency)
Equipment for the treatment, preparation and defrost of physiological and biological samples to be analyzed on board the ISS. Responsible for the design and implementation of the infra-red communications protocol, Rotor and Stator Electronics Subsystems.
Kit Digitalitzador (for Institut Cartogràfic de Catatalunya)
High Resolution Digital Still-Camera for Aerial Photography. Responsible for the design, manufacturing and test of the CCD-image acquisition electronics, and the optics and image acquisition controllers.
In-vivo tissue impedance analyzer for monitoring body fluid balances during dialysis, based on local bio-impedance spectroscopy. Responsible for the project research and development of the bio-impedance measurement instrumentation in collaboration with the Bio-Impedance Research Group at UPC (Electronics Department in north campus).
MULTIGEN (for European Space Agency)
Equipment for controlling and monitoring the growth of plants in micro-gravity conditions. Responsible for the design, manufacturing, test, and project management.
